A Lake Management Plan (LMP) is a comprehensive document that identifies the goals and actions for the purpose of improving and protecting desired conditions in and surrounding a lake. While these objectives focus primarily on ecologic conditions, they also include the health, happiness, and changing needs of the lake community. The LMP will analyze lake data and survey the surrounding watershed to: define current conditions of the lake ecosystems, identify areas in need of improvement, and create a plan of action for the coming years. Based on the results of the vegetation survey and water quality analysis, we will identify strengths, weaknesses and risks to the lake and its community. We will then follow the recommendations of our professional lake consultants on how best to mitigate any current issues and move toward more effictive and efficient lake treatment methods. We anticipate this process to have multiple components and continue to evolve as the needs of the lake and our community change.
We all want to maintain (and improve) our lake’s beauty and ecologic health for our (and future generations) enjoyment and well-being. A thorough and customized lake management plan will be an essential component of achieving that goal.
Additionally, If we ever need to apply for grants to fix a serious problem, like harmful algae blooms (HABs) or toxic runoff from a neighboring facility, almost all governing bodies that would supply grant money require a lake management plan as part of the application process. Mitigating these issues could be extremely expensive, and probably cost-prohibitive for our community. Obtaining grant money will be critical to addressing any potential issues and the continued maintenance of Silver Lake.
A specifically-designed lake management plan will not only serve to protect and preserve Silver Lake, but also act as a point of reference for national and state-wide programs and services.
